Grieg Society of Great Britain, founded in October 1992 to promote British interest in Grieg and other Norwegian composers and to pursue the cultural links between Britain and Norway. The British Society is affiliated to Grieg Societies in Norway, Russia, the United States, Germany, the Netherlands and Japan, under the umbrella of the International Grieg Society in Norway.
Record of the Year is awarded annually for a recording which, in the opinion of the Society had added significantly to the repertoire. Recent recipients include the pianist Einar Steen-Nøkleberg, soprano Bodil Arnesen, Naxos, BIS Records, Leif Ove Andsnes, Katarina Karnéus, BIS Records and the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.
Information about concerts, books, records and all the Society’s activities is passed on through the Journal, website and occasional newsletters. There are also regular meetings with talks, recordings and videos, as well as informal social occasions.
Enjoy listening to the music of Grieg and other Norwegian composers at concerts by both British and international artists, in London and elsewhere, almost all of which are free of charge to members.
Grieg Journal is the journal of the Society and contains articles on Grieg’s life and works by distinguished contributors, reprints of writings by Grieg’s contemporaries, record and book reviews and is sent free to members.
